Job summary

Cambridgeshire County Council is seeking a part-time Support Worker to help adults with a learning disability and/or autism live as independently as possible. You will work in a small team to enable service users to enjoy lifestyles they choose, supporting with personal care, daily tasks and community activities.

Training is provided, with the role including administration of medication and updating care plans.

Qualifications

  • You will hold a Care-related certificate at Level 2 or above and demonstrate written and spoken English for case recording and communication.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and knowledge of safeguarding.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical support to service users to promote independence.
  • Assist with personal care, cleaning, shopping and accessing community activities.
  • Administer medications as required.
  • Update support plans and risk assessments using IT.
  • Work on a 4-week rota including weekends and Bank Holidays; sleep-ins may be required.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities.

Job description

Alder Close Respite is based in the town of March and supports adults with a learning disability and/or autism.

The role of Support Worker is to enable adults with a disability to live as independently as possible and to enjoy lifestyles they choose to. We support and empower individuals to enhance the quality of their life, maximise potential and to continue to promote and develop independence skills whilst staying at Respite.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

What will you be doing?

You will report to the Lead Support worker and work in a small team to provide practical support, you will build on service users` existing skills and abilities whilst respecting their individual needs and choices. This includes supporting with personal care where needed, cleaning, shopping, and accessing community activities and opportunities. The role will also involve administration of medication.

You will be using IT to update documents such as support plans and risk assessments.

The shifts are on a 4-week rota which could be subject to change to meet service need. These will be during the week, at weekends or Bank Holidays (between 7am- 10pm). Additional enhancements are paid for weekends and Bank Holidays. You will be required to work two weekend shifts, twice a month and complete sleep ins.

The starting pay for the posts is £13.45 per hour (approx. £20.17 Saturday hours - £23.94 Sunday hours).

About you

As well as a Care related certificate at Level 2 or above (or equivalent) you will also have a proficient level of written and spoken English for the purposes of case recording and communication with service users, families and other partners.

You will have the ability to demonstrate awareness and understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion and a good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and assessments of capacity as well as the need for safety and confidentiality in the role.

Interviews will be held in person week commencing 21st September 2026.
