Cooper Lomaz Recruitment Services Ltd is seeking an experienced Relief Driver to operate a Class 1 vehicle on multi-drop routes in Newmarket. The role is permanent and full-time, with responsibilities including loading/unloading, and delivering safely while maintaining excellent customer service.

The successful candidate will join a well-established organisation in Newmarket, with a standard Monday–Friday day shift and potential overtime.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 1 / C+E licence is required.
• Valid Driver CPC qualification/card.
• Digital Tachograph Card and good load security knowledge.

Relief Driver

Location: Newmarket, Suffolk

Salary: £38,000 per annum

Overtime: Time and a half

About the Role

Cooper Lomaz are working on behalf of our client, a well-established and successful organisation, who are looking for an experienced Class 1 Driver to join their transport operation based in Newmarket.

This is a permanent, full-time position involving the operation of a company Class 1 vehicle on multi-drop delivery routes. The successful candidate will also assist with the safe loading and unloading of the vehicle where required, ensuring all deliveries are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard of customer service.

Working Hours

The role operates Monday to Friday - Days.

Overtime available and paid at time and a half.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive a Class 1 vehicle in accordance with all relevant road traffic, tachograph and transport legislation.
• Complete daily vehicle checks prior to departure, ensuring the vehicle and load are safe and secure.
• Follow the daily delivery plan and maintain communication with the office regarding any delays or issues.
• Complete multi-drop deliveries safely, efficiently and professionally.
• Provide a high standard of customer service, remaining courteous and professional at all delivery locations.
• Ensure the correct materials are delivered efficiently and in good condition.
• Assist with the safe loading and unloading of materials at customer premises where required.
• Follow all site-specific health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Ensure loads remain secure throughout transportation.
• Report accidents, delivery issues, damaged products and vehicle defects to the Transport Department.
• Comply with all company policies, procedures and driver handbook requirements.
• Attend relevant training courses as required.
• Follow all safe systems of work and report any identified risks, hazards or shortcomings.
• Take an active role in maintaining high health and safety standards and intervene where unsafe practices are identified.
• Follow the company's Quality Management Systems to help maintain high standards and minimise non-conformances.
• Follow environmental policies and procedures, supporting the company's objectives around waste management and reducing environmental impact.

Experience Required

• Previous experience working as a Class 1 Driver.
• Experience with multi-drop delivery routes is beneficial.
• Experience transporting large or heavy goods is beneficial.
• Experience securing loads, including the use of straps, is beneficial.
• Forklift or CombiLift experience would be advantageous.
• Good understanding of road safety, load security and tachograph requirements.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• A responsible and safety-conscious approach to driving and deliveries.
