The role is full-time, 35 hours a week, with two days a week in the Glasgow City Centre office and three days a week working from home. However, we will consider requests for a 28-hour week with pro-rata salary. We support flexible working and have a strong values-based culture.

Scottish EDGE is a Community Interest Company (social enterprise), located in Glasgow. For over a decade the organization has been supporting companies by running a bi-annual funding competition aimed at helping to identify Scotland’s up-and-coming, innovative and high-growth entrepreneurial talent.

Scottish EDGE has invested a total of £28.5 million in the form of grants and business loans and supported 680 Alumni, over 500 of which are still trading.

Working collaboratively with the support eco-system across: Business Gateway, Scottish Enterprise, various Business Accelerators and Scotland’s Innovation Centres, Scottish EDGE is a key business start-up organisation contributing to the National Strategy for Economic Transformation by helping to support and scale entrepreneurs for the benefit of the Scottish Economy.

The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join Scottish EDGE as a Relationship Manager and engage with Scotland’s up-and-coming entrepreneurial talent across all sectors. You’ll be part of a team of eight specialists working closely with clients to provide comprehensive business support and assisting companies to navigate and maximise the many avenues and resources available through Scotland’s entrepreneurial support agencies. This is a rewarding opportunity for the right individual to make a difference to others and their own career.

Who we’re looking for:

You’ll have business growth experience and will use your expertise and networks to support our winners to fulfil their potential and maximise customer and growth opportunities. You should have knowledge of the early-stage market; including validation, IP, business modelling, product commercialisation and investment..

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting detailed business reviews (following each final) to agree contract milestones incorporating short-and long-term strategies for growth.
  • Supporting Second Tranche Reviews, conducting detailed business assessment of progress against agreed milestones, following company requests for the release of the Scottish EDGE award payments.
  • Reviewing key financial information, collecting appropriate evidence of expenditure, auditing and documenting your recommendation on payment release.
  • Maintaining monthly contact with businesses in respect of loan repayment capability providing ongoing support and identifying key actions to ensure optimal viability.
  • Collecting Scottish EDGE Alumni impact statistics for funders to monitor key performance information relating to progress on job creation, turnover and additional investment raised.
  • Attending events to gather information, enhancing the Scottish EDGE network, and promoting the essential work undertaken by the team across Scotland.
  • Participating in the assessment days leading up to the EDGE finals, reviewing applications submitted and collating scoring and feedback from the judging panel at each assessment round.
  • Carrying out detailed cashflow analysis during semi-final and final stages of the competition and supporting judges with observations and possible questions to optimise the EDGE awards outcome.
  • Keeping abreast of funding opportunities and learning opportunities via webinars and coordinating networking meetings to support EDGE alumni and accelerate their growth.
  • Take responsibility for assigned objectives from the company’s five year plan.

Your skills, abilities and experience should include:

  • Business Development experience and an understanding of finance as it relates to start-ups and early-stage companies.
  • An appreciation of cashflow and the factors affecting income and expenditure.
  • Knowledge of start-ups and the factors affecting survival and growth.
  • A naturally inquisitive disposition, a challenging questioner and active listener.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at a strategic level and challenge where appropriate.
  • Great organisational skills, with a high-level of attention to detail.
  • A natural empathy with entrepreneurs and the challenges they face. A proactively supportive demeanour with an entrepreneurial outlook.
  • Network connections – the ability to connect businesses with expertise within Scottish Enterprise, support Partners and the wider Scottish business ecosystem.
  • Strong customer focus and experience of building and managing relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a demanding workload, with strong time management skills.
  • Good numeracy and analytical skills.

Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:

  • Experience of supporting businesses in an advisory capacity
  • Financial readiness knowledge or an awareness of how to raise early-stage finance/equity investment/ SEED capital or Series A funding.
  • An ability to deal with sensitive situations.
  • Experience of MS Dynamics and SharePoint.
