Job summary

Markel International seeks a Senior Financial Reporting Accountant to lead Lloyd's regulatory returns and UK GAAP reporting for Syndicate 3000. You will partner with Finance, Actuarial, Underwriting, Compliance and Audit to improve reporting quality, strengthen controls and provide meaningful performance insights.

The role sits in the Lloyd's and Solvency UK Reporting team within Markel Group's Global Finance Department.

Qualifications

• Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with experience in a reporting environment.
• Exceptional analytical and data interrogation skills with ability to identify trends from large datasets.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience handling large volumes of regulatory data for high‑quality reporting.
• Data‑driven mindset with ability to translate numbers into insightful commentary for senior partners.
• Experience using reporting tools/solutions to improve efficiency, automation and capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation and evaluation of Lloyd's regulatory returns within deadlines.
• Produce quarterly and annual UK GAAP financial reporting for Syndicate 3000, including board papers and statutory FS.
• Assist in Lloyd's returns (QMA Delta, QMB, RRQ, Flash Reports, TRIA) and other intl submissions.
• Perform analytical reviews of underwriting results, broker balances, expenses and capital movements.
• Maintain strong relationships with Finance, Actuarial, Underwriting, Compliance, Internal Audit and external auditors.
• Review and enhance reporting processes, controls and documentation for quality and consistency.
• Provide technical guidance to junior team members and help develop reporting capability.
