Job description

Who are we?

At OpenPayd, we are building a universal financial infrastructure to power the growth of the digital economy. Our rails-agnostic approach empowers any business to move and manage money globally - across both traditional rails and stablecoins — at scale, and in real time.

The OpenPayd platform delivers a suite of banking and payments infrastructure: accounts in over 40 currencies, FX, on/off ramp, international and domestic payments, Open Banking services – all via a single API.

A global network of licences alongside our best-in-class tech is why we're trusted by 1200+ enterprise clients to process over $300 bn volume annually.

Please note this is initially a maternity cover with opportunity of further extension or a move to other role within the business.

How will you add value to the OpenPayd journey?
  • Provide fixed-term maternity-cover support, maintaining the continuity and effectiveness of OpenPayd’s regulatory compliance framework.
  • Maintain oversight of the regulatory obligations that apply to relevant OpenPayd entities, jurisdictions and activities.
  • Manage and coordinate regulatory returns, notifications, applications and submissions, ensuring they are accurate, complete and delivered on time.
  • Coordinate regulatory correspondence, meetings, inspections, information requests and other supervisory engagements, working with stakeholders to provide timely, well-evidenced responses.
  • Monitor changes to relevant laws, regulations, regulatory guidance and industry standards, and maintain regulatory obligations and change registers.
  • Assess how regulatory developments affect our activities, policies, processes and controls, and coordinate implementation with business owners.
  • Provide regulatory compliance advice, oversight and effective second-line challenge for new products, services, markets, client propositions and material business changes.
  • Review and support the development of policies, procedures and controls so that regulatory requirements are properly reflected and implemented.
  • Support compliance risk assessments, monitoring activity and control improvements, ensuring that risks and weaknesses are documented and addressed.
  • Identify, assess, document and escalated actual or potential regulatory breaches, overseeing any related notifications, corrective action and remediation.
  • Prepare and present regulatory compliance reports and updates to senior management, relevant committees and Boards.
  • Maintain accurate regulatory compliance records and evidence, including registers, assessments, policies, procedures, submissions and remediation activity.
  • Help ensure OpenPayd is prepared for internal and external audits, regulatory inspections and compliance assessments.
  • Monitor agreed remediation and mitigation plans, challenge progress where necessary and track actions through to completion.
  • Develop and deliver proportionate regulatory compliance training and awareness activities for employees and relevant stakeholders.
  • Work closely with Legal, Finance, Operations, Product, Sales, Customer Success, Risk, Internal Audit and HR to support effective regulatory compliance across the business.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness, consistency and efficiency of the regulatory compliance framework and its processes.
  • Maintain clear working records and handover documentation to support continuity throughout and at the end of the maternity-cover period.
  • Carry out additional regulatory compliance projects as required.
  • Travel internationally on occasion for regulatory engagements, training, knowledge sharing and business purposes, in line with local legislation and OpenPayd’s travel policy.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Substantial experience in a second-line regulatory compliance role within a regulated financial services environment.
  • Experience in payments, electronic money, fintech, banking-as-a-service or digital assets would be a strong advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks, governance arrangements and risk management principles relevant to regulated financial services businesses.
  • Working knowledge of relevant UK and European regulatory requirements; experience supporting more than one regulated entity or jurisdiction would be advantageous.
  • Practical experience managing regulatory reporting, notifications, submissions, supervisory engagements, inspections or information requests.
  • The ability to understand an established compliance framework quickly and manage business-as-usual responsibilities with limited supervision.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accurate, well-structured work.
  • Sound judgement and a risk-based, proportionate and pragmatic approach that maintains appropriate regulatory and ethical standards.
  • A proactive, improvement-focused mindset and the ability to strengthen controls, streamline processes and improve the compliance framework.
  • Strong influencing and communication skills, with the confidence to give clear, constructive compliance guidance and present complex matters to senior stakeholders.
  • The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with care, discretion and professionalism, alongside fluent written and spoken business English.
