Job summary

Stockport Council is seeking a Regulatory and Enforcement Lawyer MB4 to lead criminal enforcement and regulatory work, providing high quality legal advice across Trading Standards, Environmental Health, Health and Safety, and licensing matters.

You will join a collaborative Legal Team, gaining development support in a friendly culture with a strong wellbeing focus. Hybrid working arrangements apply, with in-office presence at Stockport Town Hall recommended several days per week.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a current practising certificate valid in England.
  • 5+ years PQE in regulatory/enforcement law.
  • Experience in criminal enforcement and regulatory work desirable.
  • A flexible, can-do attitude with a collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and engage in criminal enforcement and regulatory work.
  • Provide high quality legal advice on Trading Standards, Environmental Health, Health and Safety, planning breaches, licensing.
  • Collaborate within a friendly team of ten and the wider Legal Team.
  • Support development and wellbeing within Stockport Council.

Regulatory and Enforcement Lawyer MB4 (£46,579 - £53,051) 37 hours, Full-Time Permanent Hybrid: Stockport Town Hall and homeworking (in office at least two days per week)

Your Role

We are looking for candidates who can take on a key role within the Litigation team. You will lead and engage in criminal enforcement and regulatory work and provide high quality legal advice relating to areas including:

  • Trading Standards and Environmental Health,
  • Health and Safety
  • Breaches of enforcement notices including Planning
  • Premises and Taxi/Private Hire Licensing

You will work within a friendly and collaborative team of ten colleagues, in a supportive environment where your professional development will be nurtured and appreciated.

You will be an integral part of our award-winning Legal Team which is made up of up 50 colleagues across five different legal sub-teams, each delivering their own area of expertise.

About You

Experience in all areas is not essential and support will be provided. A can-do attitude, being flexible and solutions focussed and a desire to develop are key attributes.

Experience of criminal enforcement and regulatory work may have been gained in private practice or another public organisation. You should hold a current practising certificate, qualifying you to practice in England as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives with litigation rights, with at least 5 years PQE.
