Job summary

CRA Consulting is seeking a qualified Solicitor to join a Local Authority in Greater Manchester as a Litigation Lawyer – Regulatory & Enforcement. You will manage a varied caseload across Trading Standards, Environmental Health, licensing and planning enforcement, and conduct statutory prosecutions with advocacy in courts.

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor with experience in criminal enforcement and regulatory law.
• Experience managing a full and varied caseload.
• Confident advocacy and courtroom experience.
• Strong drafting and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Current Practising Certificate in England & Wales.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice across Council functions including Trading Standards and Environmental Health.
• Advise on Health & Safety enforcement and Planning enforcement.
• Handle Premises and Licensing matters including Taxi and Private Hire Licensing.
• Conduct criminal prosecutions and regulatory enforcement.
• Draft complaints, summonses, pleadings and instructions to Counsel.
• Conduct advocacy in courts and tribunals.
• Advise and attend Licensing Committee meetings.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders.
• Mentor junior team members where applicable.

Litigation Lawyer – Regulatory & Enforcement

Location: Greater Manchester / Hybrid
Salary: £51,000-£58,000
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week

CRA Consulting are currently recruiting for an experienced Litigation Lawyer – Regulatory & Enforcement to join the Legal Services team of a Local Authority in Greater Manchester on a permanent basis. This is a great opportunity for a Regulatory, Enforcement or Criminal Lawyer looking for a varied public sector role, with responsibility for a full caseload of complex regulatory and criminal enforcement matters.

The Role

You’ll provide legal advice across a broad range of Council functions, including:

• Trading Standards and Environmental Health
• Health & Safety enforcement
• Planning enforcement
• Premises and Licensing matters
• Taxi and Private Hire Licensing
• Criminal prosecutions and regulatory enforcement
• Advising internal Council departments and stakeholders
• Drafting complaints, summonses, pleadings, notices and instructions to Counsel
• Conducting advocacy in courts and tribunals
• Advising and attending Licensing Committee meetings

You’ll manage your own caseload while working closely with internal and external stakeholders, with the opportunity to support and develop junior members of the team.

About You

We’re looking for a qualified Solicitor with:

• Strong experience in criminal enforcement and regulatory law
• Experience managing a full and varied caseload
• Confident advocacy and courtroom experience
• Strong drafting and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• A current Practising Certificate or equivalent qualification to practise in England & Wales
• Local Authority licensing experience would be advantageous but is not essential
