Job summary

Stockport Council is seeking an experienced Employment Lawyer to join its Legal and Democratic Services team on a permanent basis. You will provide clear legal advice across a varied employment caseload, supporting HR and council departments and advising on settlements, TUPE, grievances and disciplinary matters.

The role is hybrid, based in Stockport, with 37 hours per week. The successful candidate will be a qualified Solicitor with strong Employment Law experience and a practical,

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor with strong Employment Law experience.
• Experience advising employers on employment matters.
• Able to manage own caseload, handling contentious and non-contentious work.

• Pragmatic, practical legal advice within HR and Legal teams.

Responsibilities

• Advise on Employment Tribunal claims and contentious matters.
• Counsel on unfair dismissal, discrimination, grievances and disciplinary processes.
• Handle TUPE, settlement agreements, contracts, policies and procedures.
• Deliver day-to-day employment advice to HR and Council departments.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to manage legal risk and contribute to precedents.

Employment Lawyer - Stockport Council

CRA Consulting are currently recruiting for a permanent Employment Lawyer opportunity with Stockport Council, joining their Legal and Democratic Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Employment Lawyer to join a supportive in-house legal team and advise the Council across a broad range of employment matters.

The Role

You will provide clear and practical legal advice across a varied employment caseload, including:

• Employment Tribunal claims and contentious employment matters
• Unfair dismissal and discrimination
• Grievances and disciplinary proceedings
• Redundancy and organisational change
• TUPE
• Settlement agreements
• Employment contracts, policies and procedures
• Day-to-day employment advice to HR and Council departments
• Working closely with internal stakeholders to manage legal risk
• Contributing to team precedents, guidance and internal knowledge

About You

We're looking for an experienced Employment Lawyer who:

• Is a qualified Solicitor or equivalent
• Has strong Employment Law experience
• Has experience advising employers
• Is confident handling contentious and non-contentious employment matters
• Can manage their own caseload effectivelyHas excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Can provide pragmatic and practical legal advice
• Works well as part of a wider Legal and HR team

Local Authority or wider public sector experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
