RCVS registered Veterinary Nurse

Job description

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-orientated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Wheelhouse Vets on a full-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to join our practice at a time of exciting growth. Our nurses are extremely valuable to us, and we encourage them to use all their knowledge and skills to the best of their abilities, so the team is very ambitious and pro‑active. We offer a good all‑around experience for our nurses, so everyone gets the chance to work in the different areas such as theatre, wards, and nurse clinics.

We are a first opinion small animal practice located in the picturesque countryside of the Chilterns, perfect for horse riding, cycling, and walking. We are surrounded by golf clubs and country parks like Wendover Woods, Black Park and Langley Park, all while being within an easy commute of London.

Practice Highlights
  • We have endoscopy, laparoscopic bitch spays, ultrasound, DR and CR Radiography, Class 4 Lasers, 4 consult rooms and an in‑house lab
  • Overall nursing team consists of 3 SVN’s and 13 RVN’s including 1 physio nurse, alongside a veterinary physiotherapist and a leadership team of a Head Nurse with a Deputy Head Nurse at each site
  • Members of the veterinary team either engaged in or having achieved certificates in oncology, ophthalmology, physiotherapy, dentistry, anaesthesia, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, small animal medicine, feline medicine, and dermatology
  • We actively support many different charities both locally and nationally each year, including StreetVet, Marjorie Nash Cat Rescue, and Macmillan Cancer Support
How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high‑quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences.

You’ll work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team, taking responsibility for the nursing care of a range of first opinion cases, contributing to clinical standards, and supporting the ongoing development of patient care within the practice.

Each morning, the clinical team attends a ward round lasting approximately 15 minutes. The Head Nurse, Deputy Nurse or Head Vet leads the meeting, introducing each patient and outlining the procedures planned for the day. The team discusses who will be performing and assisting with each procedure, the anticipated timings, and any medications or pre‑medications required. This provides the team with a clear plan and structure for the day.

The team rota is also reviewed, including which team members are working, their shift times and the departments they will be working in. Any inpatients are discussed, with responsibility for their care allocated accordingly. Following the ward round, the case vet and ward nurse discuss each inpatient in greater detail to ensure their individual care plans and requirements are fully understood.

Working Pattern
  • 40 hours per week
  • Cover a variety of shifts across 5 days
  • 1:5 weekends
