Job description
Registered Nursing Associate - Radiology

Radiology is an ever-expanding department, including a wide variety of modalities such as CT, MRI and Ultrasound. In the autumn of 2020, we also opened the new Norfolk Centre for Interventional Radiology (NCIR). A wide range of Vascular and Non-vascular interventional procedures are currently performed at the NNUH, and the ambition is to expand these services to be at the cutting edge of IR developments. Radiology also provides a Vascular Access Team - which is a bed side PICC and Mid-line service.

We are looking for a Nursing Associate to join our established Radiology team, to work on a rotational basis across all areas of Radiology: CT/MRI, Ultra-Sound, Interventional Radiology and the Vascular Access Team.

Main duties of the job

Under the direction of the registered practitioners (this refers to qualified registered nurses, ODPs and Radiographers) to provide high quality care, safe and compassionate for patients attending the Radiology department and the vascular access team for varying procedures and examinations within a multi-disciplinary framework. Job responsibilities

Vascular Access:The Vascular Access Team provides a vascular access service to the entire Trust. We insert PICCs and Midlines across all areas, in both inpatients and outpatients. Where possible, lines are inserted at the patients bedside using Sherlock 3CG technology. We also respond to problems with lines, e.g. blockages and migration issues and offer advice and support to ward staff. Service is currently provided Monday to Friday 07.30 20.00 with the plan to also work 08:00-16:00 on Saturdays.

Interventional Radiology:Interventional Radiology is a highly advanced and rapidly expanding field of modern medicine. Through the use of state-of-the-art real time imaging equipment, we are able to perform a wide variety of treatments using minimally-invasive techniques. Procedures range from non-cardiac angioplasty and stenting to the insertion of central access lines, feeding tubes, drains and even the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms, targeted chemotherapy treatments and controlling internal bleeding. The patients we treat are referred to us from multiple medical specialties including vascular surgery, oncology, gastroenterology, and urology. We are a highly experienced, skilled and motivated team from many varied backgrounds in ward-based medicine and surgery, all working together to put patients first and achieve the best possible outcome.

Main Radiology:The Norfolk and Norwich's radiology department offers services which comprise of plain film x ray, ultrasound and CT and MRI scans for both inpatients and outpatients. We offer a wide range of procedures both diagnostic and therapeutic, ensuring our patients have the best possible care during their journey through our department. We are a small, friendly and hardworking team that works with a large range of healthcare professionals such as Doctors, Nurses, Radiographers and healthcare assistants all striving to ensure that our patients have the best possible experience when visiting our department.

  • To accurately and responsibly carry out instructions of the registered members of the multi-disciplinary Radiology nursing team who are professionally accountable for the delivery of care.
  • To report to qualified staff any patient that gives cause for concern and any observed changes in a patients clinical condition.
  • To report all care that has been given to patients within the multi-disciplinary team and document accurately whilst maintaining confidentiality
  • To be aware of and adhere to all trust policies/procedures/guidelines when undertaking any activities.
  • To make patients welcome to the clinical area and undertake observations and post procedural care under the minimal supervision of the registered practitioner.
  • Provide and deliver a high standard of individualised personal care.
  • Understand and attend to the biopsychosocial needs of the patient, relatives, and carers.
  • Undertake monitoring of observations ensuring documentation is accurate, legible.
  • Adhere to Trust infection control procedure demonstrating an understanding of cross infection.
  • Support and continue care initiated by transferring wards.
  • Deliver and review care within the clinical area with minimal supervision of a registered practitioner following Trust Guidelines.
