Job summary

Milton Keynes University Hospital is expanding its Paediatric Services and inviting applications for a Nursing Associate within Children’s Services. You will work alongside nurses, doctors and the multidisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, family‑centred care to children and young people.

You will monitor and assess patients using recognised paediatric tools, support safe medicines administration within your scope, maintain accurate records and promote safeguarding.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nursing Associate with NMC registration.
  • Foundation degree in Nursing for Nursing Associate.
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalation.
  • Understanding of holistic family-centred care.
  • Experience in paediatric or NHS setting preferred.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.

Working alongside nurses, doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will:

  • Deliver compassionate, family-centred care

Our Children’s Services provide a diverse range of opportunities, allowing you to build a broad and rewarding paediatric career.

  • Ward 4 - Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU): A dynamic 24-hour assessment unit providing expert, timely and family-centred care for children requiring short-stay assessment and treatment.
  • Paediatric Day Surgery Unit: Supporting children and families through planned day-case procedures across a range of specialties including ENT, ophthalmology, trauma and orthopaedics, dental and urology.
  • Ward 5: A busy 22-bed inpatient ward caring for children aged 0-16 years with medical, surgical, oncology and orthopaedic conditions. The ward includes dedicated High Dependency beds and excellent development opportunities for staff caring for children with more complex needs.
  • Paediatric Outpatients: Supporting children and families through specialist clinics and follow-up care, helping build long-term therapeutic relationships and continuity of care. There may also be opportunities to work collaboratively across our wider paediatric services, including the Neonatal Unit, Children’s Emergency Department and Planned Care services.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is a Registered Nursing Associate with current NMC registration.
  • Is passionate about caring for children, young people and families.
  • Demonstrates kindness, compassion and respect in every interaction.
  • Communicates confidently and effectively with colleagues, children and families.
  • Works well as part of a team.
  • Values safeguarding and patient advocacy.
  • Is organised, motivated and eager to learn.
  • Remains calm and professional in a busy clinical environment.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Registered Nursing Associate (Registered with the NMC).
  • Nursing Associate Foundation Degree Qualification.
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalation to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice.
  • Understanding of holistic family centred care.
  • Understanding of pressures within inpatient care.
  • Knowledge and an understanding of safeguarding children and adults and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Acute paediatric experience in the NHS.
  • Experience caring for neonates, children, and/or young people.
  • Experience using a range of nursing tools (PEWS, NEWTS2, PYMS, etc.) to inform and direct care, Able to work effectively either independently or as part of a team.
  • Up to date clinical skills appropriate to the work area.
  • Able to undertake mathematical calculations (i.e., calculate medication doses).
  • Maintain high standards of quality in corporate and clinical record keeping ensuring information is always recorded accurately, appropriately and kept up to date.
  • Personal and people development,
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written , verbal and nonverbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi -disciplinary team.
