Job summary

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Pharmacy Assistant to support dispensing services and patient care within a busy hospital pharmacy. Under supervision you will perform pharmacy tasks, work as part of a team across the Trust, and contribute to Medicines Management and Governance.

This role also offers exposure to a modern department with opportunities to develop skills through NVQ Level 2 and flexible working.

Qualifications

  • Under supervision, perform pharmacy tasks to support patient and staff services.
  • Hold or obtain NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Services Skills.
  • Be part of the pharmacy team and support Medicines Management and Governance.
  • Comply with Health & Safety, COSHH and Professional Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pharmacy duties under supervision to support patient care.
  • Be a dispenser within hospital pharmacy on a rotational basis.
  • Participate in weekend, end of day and bank holiday service to patients and others.
  • Work with the pharmacy team to achieve Trust objectives.
  • Contribute to Medicines Management and Clinical Governance agendas.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • To perform, under supervision, all types of pharmaceutical work appropriate to the level of knowledge and experience, in order to participate in the provision of pharmaceutical services to our patients and staff.
  • To hold or acquire the required academic standard and technical skills to obtain an NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Services Skills.
  • To act as a dispenser within our hospital pharmacy service, as required, on a rotational basis and as part of our weekend, end of day and bank holiday service to the patients of our hospital and other organisations to whom we provide pharmaceutical support.
  • To be part of the pharmacy team and work with staff within the pharmacy department and across the Trust to enable the objectives of the Trust to be achieved.
  • To contribute to the Trust compliance with Medicines Management standards and the Clinical Governance and Risk Management agendas.
  • To ensure the Pharmacy department is compliant with relevant statutory and professional standards on Health & Safety, COSHH, Clinical Governance, and Medicines Management by ensuring your actions take account of all guidance provided.
  • To fulfil the duties assigned from time to time as required to meet the needs of the Trust, its patients, staff and visitors; to participate in rotas and flexible arrangements to maintain the services required as defined by the chief pharmacist or pharmacy staff to whom those decisions are delegated

Full-time 37.5 per week shift pattern - Sunday & Bank Holiday roster, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

It is an exciting time to join the pharmacy team at MKUH; we are continually growing and influence and have recently built a new Aseptic Unit and refurbished our main pharmacy department including the installation of a state of the art dispensing robot.

We are a department of over 90 staff providing pharmacy services through team-working and prioritising the needs of those we serve, so evidence of customer service skills would be an advantage.

Our Pharmacy Assistants provide dispensing services in the hospital pharmacy and work in the pharmacy stores, on the wards (top up of stock) and our aseptic production unit on a rotational basis as required by the service. This will broaden your skills and helps us to ensure we have a service that can meet all the demands that are placed on it.
