Job summary
Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Registered Nursing Associate to join the Children’s Services. The role focuses on delivering family-centred paediatric care, working with nurses, doctors and the multidisciplinary team.
Band 4 salary £28,392–£31,157 per year, pro rata for part-time hours, on a fixed-term basis. We welcome applicants who are NMC registered, dedicated to safeguarding children, and able to communicate clearly with families.
Qualifications
- Registered Nursing Associate with current NMC registration.
- Knowledge of safeguarding children and promoting welfare.
- Ability to work in paediatric inpatient settings and across multidisciplinary teams.

As a Nursing Associate within Children's Services, you'll play a vital role in delivering high-quality, holistic care to children and young people. Working alongside nurses, doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will:

Our Children's Services provide a diverse range of opportunities, allowing you to build a broad and rewarding paediatric career.
A dynamic 24-hour assessment unit providing expert, timely and family-centred care for children requiring short-stay assessment and treatment.
Supporting children and families through planned day-case procedures across a range of specialties including ENT, ophthalmology, trauma and orthopaedics, dental and urology.
A busy 22-bed inpatient ward caring for children aged 0-16 years with medical, surgical, oncology and orthopaedic conditions. The ward includes dedicated High Dependency beds and excellent development opportunities for staff caring for children with more complex needs.
Supporting children and families through specialist clinics and follow-up care, helping build long-term therapeutic relationships and continuity of care.
There may also be opportunities to work collaboratively across our wider paediatric services, including the Neonatal Unit, Children's Emergency Department and Planned Care services.

- Registered Nursing Associate (Registered with the NMC).
- Nursing Associate Foundation Degree Qualification
- Knowledge of when to seek advice and elevate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice
- Understanding of holistic family centred care
- Understanding of pressures within inpatient care
- Knowledge and an understanding of safeguarding children and adults and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Acute paediatric experience in the NHS
- Experience caring for neonates, children, and/or young people.
- Experience using a range of nursing tools (PEWS, NEWTS2, PYMS, etc.) to inform and direct care
- Able to work effectively either independently or as part of a team
- Up to date clinical skills appropriate to the work area
- Able to undertake mathematical calculations (i.e., calculate medication doses)
- Maintain high standards of quality in corporate and clinical record keeping ensuring information is always recorded accurately, appropriately and kept up to date
- Ability to take part in reflective practice
- Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and nonverbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team
