The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. She/he is responsible for quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. Additionally, she/he directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
A Registered Nurse II (RN II) is responsible for the care of the assigned patient population. An RN II must complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies as identified by the Director/Designee, and meet Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include: assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in PI activities and department initiatives, communicating with the Director/Designee and co-workers, attending Valley Health paid education/seminar/conference workshops or reading nursing articles. The portfolio must be current and submitted annually by March 1st. The RN II routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review, and develops educational materials for staff and patients.
Associates Degree in Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN, or ADN) required. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Minimum of 1872 hours (936 hours if holding a BSN) of RN experience required, along with a performance evaluation.
RN License required. BLS Certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider) required. Relevant Specialty Certification preferred. Must be licensed or eligible to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia, either via multi-state license under the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single-state license valid in Virginia. New hires must have AHA certification before completing orientation.
