Job description

Join a well-established, medium-sized elderly dementia nursing home at a pivotal time of growth and quality enhancement. This is a key leadership opportunity for a Registered Nurse with strong management experience to shape service delivery, drive continuous improvement, and ensure outstanding, person-centred care for residents. You will have the autonomy and support to lead the home to achieve and sustain high regulatory ratings while managing a substantial budget and a dedicated multidisciplinary team.

About the Role:

As the Registered Manager, you will hold overall responsibility for the operational, clinical, and financial performance of the home, ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care for elderly residents living with dementia. You will lead the team to deliver person-centred outcomes, maintain full regulatory compliance, and embed a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. This role carries full CQC registration responsibility and offers significant scope to influence standards, practice, and resident experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide visible leadership and day-to-day management of the nursing home, ensuring safe, effective, and high-quality care for elderly residents with dementia.
  • Oversee and coordinate person-centred care planning, ensuring assessments, reviews, and documentation are accurate, compliant, and reflective of residents' needs and preferences.
  • Ensure full regulatory compliance with CQC and other relevant bodies, maintaining robust policies, procedures, and audit trails across all areas of the service.
  • Lead safeguarding and risk management processes, including incident investigation, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Drive quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives, using audits, feedback, and performance data to enhance clinical practice and service delivery.
  • Manage the home’s budget and financial performance, including occupancy, staffing costs, and resource allocation, to achieve agreed financial targets and sustainability.
  • Lead staff recruitment, induction, and ongoing development, building a skilled, engaged, and high-performing multidisciplinary team.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators, preparing regular operational and quality reports for senior management and external stakeholders as required.
Key Requirements:
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a nursing home or similar elderly care setting, with responsibility for overall service management.
  • Strong track record in leading and managing teams, including performance management, coaching, and workforce planning.
  • In-depth understanding of CQC regulations, standards, and inspection frameworks, with experience of achieving and maintaining good or outstanding ratings.
  • Demonstrable expertise in safeguarding adults, risk assessment, and incident management within a clinical care environment.
  • Experience implementing and overseeing quality assurance systems, audits, and improvement plans in a health or social care setting.
  • Competence in budgeting and financial management, including managing staffing levels, occupancy, and cost control to meet financial targets.
  • Ability to interpret and use performance data and reports to inform decision-making and drive service improvements.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to represent the home professionally to families, professionals, and regulators.
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience specifically within elderly dementia nursing homes or specialist dementia care services.
  • Background in leading change projects, service redesign, or implementation of new clinical pathways or models of care.
  • Familiarity with digital care planning systems and electronic medication management tools.
  • Experience in developing and delivering staff training programmes focused on dementia care, safeguarding, and clinical best practice.
  • Previous responsibility for preparing services for CQC inspections and responding to action plans or improvement notices.
Qualifications:
  • Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse (Adult) - essential.
  • Recognised nursing degree or equivalent professional qualification - essential.
  • Management or leadership qualification (e.g. Level 5 in Health and Social Care Management or equivalent) - preferred.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in dementia care, safeguarding, and clinical governance - preferred.
