Job description

Location: Surrey

Salary: GBP 24,000 per annum plus benefits

We are recruiting for a Regional Health and Wellbeing Practitioner in our Surrey Prisons.

Here at Forward Trust, we deliver a complex range of drug and alcohol services in the unique prison environment. Our support includes providing advice, health and wellbeing, motivational work, clinical services, and a wider range of group work and treatment programmes.

The Forward Trust services which are delivered within prison settings are commissioned by NHS England and are delivered in partnership with primary healthcare providers and HMPPS. Integration and partnership are integral to the work we do.

We believe that everyone can live a fulfilling life, whatever their past. Our work in prisons aims to support those affected by drug or alcohol issues to create lasting change and reduce dependency, homelessness, unemployment, and re-offending.

Roles Responsibilities

You will be working within an integrated healthcare framework to provide support to prisoners aged 18 and over. The team has a broad skills mix to deliver combined psychosocial and clinical interventions promoting holistic recovery and health and wellbeing to prisoners. This might include working with low-level mental health needs and/or substance misuse issues.

Our core purpose is to break the cycle of crime, and you play a key part in bringing it to life. In practice, this means you will deliver tailored interventions based on your clients' individual requirements. That involves thinking collaboratively and providing a seamless link into our clinical, family work, housing, employment, and recovery and reintegration services, as well as collaborating with other agencies.

The ultimate aim is for our clients to successfully reintegrate back into society with plenty of wellbeing and recovery capital to build on. Day to day, you will be delivering Health and Wellbeing interventions and structured programmes for service user cohorts across the region, namely: HMP Highdown, HMP Bronzefield, HMP Downview, HMP Coldingley, and HMP Send.

The flexible nature of this role means you will also support locations with additional needs such as carrying out assessments, second checking, or other relevant duties to enable the smooth running of the service. Our success is based around targets and measuring the effectiveness of our work, so accurate and timely recording of data will be a vital part of your role.

The Programmes Practitioner will be covering five Surrey prisons. Based at HMP Highdown, but travel between Surrey sites will be needed regularly to deliver programmes within these services.

All prison-based roles will require enhanced DBS and HMPPS security vetting. Please note this process can take up to 3-6 weeks. All offers are subject to receiving both HMPPS vetting and DBS clearances.

Checks will require you to provide information on:

  • Yourself (personal information, financial information, police information, criminal history)
  • Your family (parents, parents' partners, siblings, partners, children)
  • Co-residents
  • Associations that may cause a conflict of interest with your role or the prison service
  • Background checks across police information systems on you, your family, and other associates
  • Credit reference checks
  • Social media and open-source checks (publicly available online content about you to ensure nothing could undermine public trust)
  • Other government and overseas agency or police checks

Please be aware our prison-based roles are not subject to any form of visa sponsorship. We kindly ask candidates to declare any current visa arrangements at application.
