You’ll manage a caseload of customers through their journey, ensuring a strengths-based approach that enables them to articulate their aspirations and realise their potential. As an ambassador for Brighton Refuge, you’ll assist in administering referrals into the service, with a focus on Safety Planning that is informed by the individual’s identify and any possible associated risks, and work with specialist support agencies and statutory organisations, particularly with local and national LGBTQ+ charities and support organisations.

You’ll be an advocate for the customers we support and support customers to move on from the service in a planned and positive way!

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Proven experience of working with the LGBTQ+ community.
  • An understanding the practical, emotional, economic and social differences of those who are members of the LGBTQ+ community, particularly having experienced Domestic Abuse, Hate Crime, and/or Discrimination.
  • Proven experience of caseload management, with a clear focus on outcomes for customers and their wider community.
  • Experience in carrying out robust safety planning.
  • The ability to work in partnership with specialist agencies such as mental health teams, offending services or other relevant services.
  • A specialist knowledge of local and national LGBTQ+ charities and support organisations.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Knowledge of housing and benefits advice (desirable).

This post is restricted to female applicants only under the provisions of the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1. The role is based within a female-only domestic abuse refuge, where the provision of services requires a female worker to ensure the privacy, dignity, and safety of residents.
