Join the team that brings talent on board!

At GWR, our recruitment team is where every great journey begins. We're the ones working hard to attract top talent, create a great candidate experience and kick-start incredible careers. Passionate about what we do, we're on a mission to make a real impact - one hire at a time.

Now, we're looking for someone just as driven to join us. If you're excited to shape the future of GWR and help others start their own unforgettable journey, we can't wait to meet you.

Who are we?

At GWR, we're proud to carry on Brunel's legacy, running one of the world's most iconic railways. With state-of-the-art trains and bold plans for growth, we connect over 275 stations and carry more than 100 million passengers a year - from Cornwall and South Wales to London - through stunning landscapes and top UK destinations.

Our 6,000-strong team is changing the way people see rail travel. Together, we will revalue rail as a very special way to travel - relaxing, fast, efficient, friendly and fun.

About the job:

As a Recruitment team we're responsible for delivering an end-to-end recruitment service across the business, including Customer Service, Operations, Engineering and HQ functions. As a seasoned Recruitment Business Partner, you will play a crucial role in developing and delivering innovative recruitment plans, attracting diverse talent at all levels and driving our people agenda.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Working with hiring managers to understand hiring needs and create appropriate attraction recruitment plans, including writing engaging job adverts and evaluating the effectiveness of recruitment activity.
  • Designing and facilitating suitable interview and assessment methods, conducting/supporting interviews when required.
  • Supporting our work to build employer brand awareness in the market.
  • Proactively gathering market intelligence to gain competitive advantage in attraction, assessment and sourcing methods.
  • Maintaining consistent candidate data and the full lifecycle recruitment process via our applicant tracking system (eArcu).

Key Candidate and Stakeholder relationship responsibilities:

  • Partnering with key business stakeholders across GWR network, staying close to the detail in your business area.
  • Advising hiring managers and interview panels on interviewing best practices, focussing on driving diversity in our hires.
  • Working closely with hiring managers and HR Business Partners to advise on clear and effective job descriptions.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with candidates to keep them engaged through the hiring process, ensuring an excellent candidate journey.
  • Advising on market and industry trends.

About you

Agile and flexible in your approach, you're able to deal with changing priorities and working at pace.

You'll enjoy engaging with both candidates and hiring managers, as well as the wider HR community. Written or verbal, you'll have adaptable communications skills to suit your audience across all levels of the business.

Ideally you will have:

  • Experience of leading and delivering Recruitment activity in the volume and/or specialist space, with an Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) lens.
  • Knowledge of all relevant labour laws including the Equality Act 2010.
  • Experience of managing an end-to-end recruitment process (including conducting psychometric assessments) in a large, complex business.
  • Level A&B certificates of Occupational Test use are desirable.

The role is based in Swindon, but we welcome applications from across the GWR Network.

There may be some travel involved as part of the role.

Working Pattern: 37 hrs a week

The Reward:

As well as a great team environment and comprehensive training, all GWR colleagues enjoy a range of benefits including:

  • on-going development,
  • defined benefit pension scheme with the Railways Pension Scheme,
  • free rail travel across the GWR network for you and your family,
  • discounted travel with other Train Operating Companies,
  • company-sponsored health care plan,
  • discounted shopping and gym membership
  • employee assistance programme and much more.

We all belong at GWR. This is our vision for providing an inclusive environment for all our colleagues, ensuring all candidates have an equal opportunity to access meaningful employment.

We value our differences such as age, gender, LGBTQIA, ethnicity, religion and disability. We maintain zero tolerance towards any form of prejudice towards our colleagues, customers, and future talent.
