Salary: The starting salary is £47,060, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £44,132 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £52,652 Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: The primary Met Location for this role is Sidcup. Travel across the Met Estate, to attend meetings as required by the business, is expected.

The Role:

We’re building something new — and we’re looking for someone who wants to be at the centre of it.

The Met’s Digital, Data and Technology team is expanding its Records Management capability. With one Records Manager already in post, we’re now bringing in another experienced professional to head up a new team. You’ll be leading a small group of around five Junior Data Managers, focusing either on engagement or analytical work, depending on your strengths.

It’s not just about organising files — this is about influencing how the Met manages data across its lifecycle: when we keep it, when we dispose of it, and how we do that ethically, legally and efficiently. You’ll apply the NRAC, guide teams through Review, Retention and Disposal (RRD) processes, and support our move towards becoming a more data-driven organisation.

You’ll get involved in audits, develop retention schedules, respond to FOIs, and play a key role in shaping policy and practice. It’s a brilliant time to join — we’ve got the right backing, a clear vision, and a lot of work that really matters.

What we can offer:

  • Hybrid working arrangements for a healthy work-life balance
  • 28 days annual leave (excluding public holidays), rising to 33 days after 5 years continuous service
  • Personal and professional development opportunities
  • Enrolment with the Met’s employee incentive partner, Edenred, giving access to a range of rewards and incentives
  • Access to a range of financial products via the Metropolitan Police Trading Service, including preferred credit facilities
  • Generous family leave for pregnancy, adoption, paternity and shared parental leave
  • Childcare support including nursery and play scheme discounts
  • Excellent contributory pension scheme for your financial future
  • Access to the Bluelight Emergency Services discount card with a range of official discounts from large national retailers to local businesses including holidays, cars, days out, fashion, gifts, insurance, phones and much more
  • A substantial range of health and wellbeing benefits including physiotherapy, 24/7 rehabilitation services and free eye tests
  • To promote physical well-being you will have full access to subsidised sports centre membership to over 3,000 UK gyms and 80 London Fitness Centres. There is also an excellent range of sporting activities on offer through the various Met Police Sports and Social Clubs.

Essential skills:

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Proven leadership capability – able to inspire and develop a team
  • High levels of integrity – handling sensitive, operational records requires trust and discretion
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence in presenting to senior audiences
  • A motivated and proactive approach, with a genuine commitment to positive outcomes
  • Willingness to develop subject matter expertise in relevant legislation and records practice
  • Confident using Microsoft 365 tools (or willingness to learn) for performance reporting and analysis
  • Creative problem-solving skills with a strategic and collaborative mindset
  • Familiarity with MPS systems or police records management practices
  • Awareness of the Code of Practice under Section 46 of the FOI Act
  • Understanding of the Police Information and Records Management (PIRM) Code of Practice
  • An interest in research and improving ways of working through evidence and innovation

This role sits within the wider Data Foundations senior leadership team, with scope for influence, development, and meaningful impact on how data is managed in one of the UK’s largest and most complex policing organisations.
