Job description

Job Overview

We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and proactive individual to join our Children's Outpatients team, providing a welcoming and professional reception service for patients, visitors and colleagues. This is a busy and varied role that requires excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You will be the first point of contact for many of our patients, playing a vital role in ensuring they receive a positive experience from the moment they arrive. You should have good IT skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a positive, flexible approach to work. You will be confident working both independently and as part of a team, with the ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with changing demands and sensitive situations. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to patients and their families while working within a supportive and dedicated multidisciplinary team. If you enjoy helping people, are highly organised and thrive in a customer-focused environment, we would love to hear from you.

Main Duties of the Job

As a key member of the outpatient team, you will work on the front reception desk, providing a welcoming, professional, and compassionate service to patients and visitors. Your responsibilities will include managing patient information on the hospital Patient Administration System (Millennium), booking and coordinating appointments, handling telephone enquiries from patients, GPs, and other healthcare professionals, arranging patient transport, and undertaking a range of administrative duties to support the smooth running of the service.

Working for our organisation

We are proud to be part of BSW Hospitals Group - a formal partnership between the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. With a combined workforce of over 17, 600 colleagues, and budget of 1.6 billion the Group is united by a common purpose to deliver the best possible care to over 1 million people. We are creating a health and care system that works with the people we care for, reducing the differences people currently face in access, experience and outcomes, improving the experience of our colleagues and tackling shared challenges like sustainability and finances. Every improvement we make across our Group will be guided by what creates the greatest benefit for our colleagues, our patients, our communities and our partners. By working together, we make a real difference for our patients, each other, and our community. Every role matters in delivering the exceptional, person-centred care we’re proud of. We’re committed to a compassionate, inclusive culture where kindness is championed, differences are valued, and diversity makes us stronger. We want to support you to thrive, taking your career to its full potential. We prioritise staff wellbeing – and yes, we even have a pool!
