Job summary

IonQ, a leading quantum platform, seeks a Systems Software Engineer for Oxford Ionics to build real-time control abstractions, drive nano-second precision experiments, and advance the execution environment that turns hardware into a quantum computer.

You will collaborate with scientists and cross-disciplinary teams, implement drivers, and deliver tooling while shaping Rust libraries and APIs for scalable, fault-tolerant systems.

Qualifications

• Expert programming skills in a systems programming language suitable for real-time environments.
• Ability to quickly iterate on low-level code in a fast-moving, cross-disciplinary team.
• Strong communication across software and scientific disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Collaborating with scientists to understand requirements.
• Interfacing with system orchestration, non-realtime control and compiler teams to ensure our work integrates seamlessly with the wider software architecture.
• Implementing drivers for various real-time devices.
• Producing tooling to enable users of our code to iterate rapidly and fearlessly.
• Developing the execution environment for the user programs which run on our systems.
• Continually improving the APIs used by our internal users.
