Job summary

Cottenham Village College is seeking a Reading Mentor to support scholars in developing reading skills, confidence and enjoyment of reading as part of the curriculum. This role plays a vital part in helping students access learning and reach their full potential.

You will work closely with scholars and staff to promote literacy, monitor progress and contribute to literacy strategies across the school. A supportive, patient approach is essential, with GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above

Qualifications

• Ability to deliver targeted reading interventions to individuals and small groups.
• Strong oral and written communication with students, families and staff.
• High attention to detail and good organisational skills.
• Patience, encouragement and a positive approach to supporting learning.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Deliver one-to-one and small-group reading interventions to improve fluency, comprehension and confidence.
• Encourage a love of reading and help develop positive reading habits across the school.
• Monitor, track and record student progress and provide feedback to staff.
• Support the school's literacy and reading strategies.
• Identify students needing additional support to improve reading age and literacy outcomes.
• Assist in assessing reading abilities and identifying interventions.
• Build positive relationships to promote engagement and progress.
• Collaborate with teachers, pastoral teams and families to support student success.
• Support reading initiatives, events and enrichment opportunities.
• Uphold high expectations for behaviour, attendance and conduct.
