Forge Valley School is seeking a Reading Mentor to support pupils’ reading development, close gaps in reading age, and enable learners to access the full curriculum. You will engage with pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4 under the guidance of senior leaders.
The role focuses on delivering effective literacy programmes, building confidence in reading, and using data to inform intervention strategies. A commitment to safeguarding and professional development is expected.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Forge Valley School as a Reading Mentor, working under the direct guidance of senior leaders to support pupils’ reading development. The role is focused on building pupils’ confidence in reading and closing gaps in reading age, enabling all learners to access the full curriculum.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, resilient, and committed to improving outcomes for young people. You will be able to engage, motivate, and challenge pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4 to raise achievement. Delivering effective literacy programmes to close attainment gaps is a key priority for the school, and this role is central to achieving that aim.
You will have a clear understanding of strategies to support reading development, including adapting approaches to meet the varying needs of pupils. A willingness to undertake relevant training is essential, along with a commitment to the school’s vision of eradicating illiteracy.
The role will involve working closely with the SLT Lead for Whole School Literacy and Subject Leaders to monitor pupil progress, alongside the effective use of data to evaluate impact and inform intervention strategies.
