Job summary

TXM Recruit Limited is seeking a Test Technician to perform defined tasks from written instructions and work independently to support depot services. You will carry out functional testing and commissioning of EMU/DMU and other rolling stock types in line with UK rail safety regulations.

You will lead fault identification, process diagnostics data, and produce detailed technical reports. The role requires a time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 and safety-critical environment experience.

Qualifications

• GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English.
• Time served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 or higher.
• Competent in electric/mechanical fault-finding techniques.
• Knowledge of railway vehicle electrical/mechanical systems.
• Ability to fault find complex circuits to an advanced level.
• Proven track record in safety-critical environments.
• Personal Track Safety (PTS) and First Aider training.
• Awareness of 5S and commitment to Safety & Quality.

Responsibilities

• Work as directed by your line manager.
• Read schematic drawings.
• Investigate rolling stock faults found within the test process with minimal supervision.
• Assist the engineering process where necessary.
• Work within a high voltage environment.
• Download and process train diagnostic data.
• Undertake fault finding to an advanced level.
• Test all types of on-train systems.
• Produce complex, analytical technical reports on fault investigation.
• Specialise in areas of technical expertise.
• May deputise for test team leader when required.
• Liaise with production departments when necessary.
• Attend off-site railway depots to support customer requirements.
• Carry out other reasonable tasks as directed by line manager.

Job description

Skilled work within a safety critical role which demands a standard of competence necessitating either an apprenticeship to a trade or recognised training programme where an employee is required to be fully qualified in all parts of the trade and capable of producing work to the required standards, specification or finish expected of a Test Technician.

To perform defined tasks to written instructions and to be able to work to their own initiative to enable the Depot to provide a quality service to the business.

Carry out functional testing and commissioning of EMU/DMU and other rolling stock types of post works to a defined and written standard in line with UK rail safety regulations.

Lead fault identification and rectification using recognised fault-finding techniques.

Responsibilities:

• Work as directed by your line manager
• Read schematic drawings
• With minimal supervision investigate rolling stock faults found within the test process
• Assist the engineering process where necessary
• Work within a high voltage environment
• Download and process train diagnostic data.
• Undertake fault finding to an advanced level
• Test all types of on train systems
• Produce complex, analytical technical reports on fault investigation
• Specialise in areas of technical expertise
• If required deputise for test team leader
• Keep test paperwork up to date, including test sheets and fault logs
• Liaise with production departments when necessary
• Attend off site railway depots to support our customers requirement
• From time to time may be asked to carry out other reasonable tasks as directed by the line manager.

Education Requirements/Person Specification

• Equivalent to GCSE C and above in Maths and English.
• Time served apprenticeship or equivalent NVQ Level 3 or higher
• Competent and trained in electric/mechanical fault-finding techniques
• Detailed knowledge of railway vehicle electrical/mechanical systems and components
• Has the ability to fault find complex circuits and systems to an advanced level.
• Has a proven track record of working within a safety critical environment
• Computer literate and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Personal Track Safety trained - Mandatory training requirement
• First Aider trained – Mandatory training requirement
• Have a strong understanding of 5s
• Awareness of the importance of Safety and Quality

Additional Requirements:

• On occasions may be required to work at other depots
• Could be asked to work shifts – 24/7
