Job description

Triumph Consultants are looking for a Homelessness Officer to work within the Housing Needs and Support team, to support clients with Private Rented Sector Offers. Contract is for 3 months in Wembley, HA9 0FJ.

Homelessness Officer

Pay Rate: Up to £31.35 per hour PAYE, DOE

Hours per week: 37 Monday - Friday, normal working hours

Location: Wembley, HA9 0FJ

Hybrid working. No details given. Assume 2 or 3 days per week in office.

Key Requirements
  • Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and procedures on homelessness and experience of providing innovative advice and solutions when dealing with complex and difficult cases
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Housing Act 1996, Part 6 & 7, as amended, housing needs issues, related legislation and case law.
  • Knowledge of the impact of the Localism Act 2011 and the ability to discharge duty to homeless households into the Private Rented Sector
  • A good working knowledge of housing benefit rules and of the supply and demand issues related to public sector and private housing in a London council
  • Experience of giving advice and information to vulnerable customers and working in a busy front line customer focused environment.
  • Strong negotiation and skills and proven ability to influence people in order to bring about desired outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake assessment of clients' circumstances taking into account relevant legislation including but not limited to the Localism Act 2011, the Homelessness (Suitability of Accommodation) (England) Order 2012, Homelessness (Suitability of Accommodation) (England) Order 2003 and the Homelessness Code of Guidance.
  • Wherever possible clients are housed as close as possible in the local area and where this is not possible, that an appropriate, suitable and affordable accommodation that meets the family’s needs is offered pursuant to fulfilment and cessation of the council’s housing duty wherever such accommodation is available
  • Deal with a range of such cases, including complex cases which may be subject to judicial review and ombudsman enquiries.
  • Focus on managing the supply, upkeep and occupancy of the Private Rented Sector Offers up to the time at which a re-application is no longer an option. This may include facilitating managed moves to optimise property use.
