Serco Limited at RAF Fylingdales, North Yorkshire, is seeking an Assistant Shift Leader to help deliver 24/7 SSPAR operation and maintenance. You will support continuous radar availability and ensure safe, efficient operation of SSPAR equipment and infrastructure.

The role blends technical oversight, leadership support and hands-on responsibilities, working with a skilled shift team to develop specialist skills and contribute to national defence through reliable service delivery.

Qualifications

• A minimum Level 3 engineering qualification and/or significant experience with HV/LV electrical and electronic systems.
• Authorised Person Electrical HV/LV or prior AP duties desirable.
• Experience with Safe Systems of Work environments and strong health, safety and compliance mindset.
• Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, building services or distributed control systems.
• Confident communicator who can build trust with customers, colleagues, contractors and subcontractors.
• Self-motivated and adaptable, committed to continuous learning and development.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor SSPAR facilities, BMS and fire alarm systems onsite.
• Carry out Authorised Person duties for HV/LV systems for planned and reactive maintenance.
• Coordinate Safe Systems of Work in line with JSP 375 and site procedures.
• Maintain accurate operational records, investigate issues and produce improvement reports.
• Supervise engineering subcontractors across facilities, mechanical, electrical and radar systems.
• Stand in for the Shift Leader, supporting radar operations, diagnostics and site reporting.

Location: RAF Fylingdales, North Yorkshire, YO18 7NT Salary: Competitive salary plus excellent benefits, including 25% shift allowance uplift Schedule: 8-week, 7-day fixed shift pattern including days (08:00-20:00) and nights (20:00-08:00) with rest days in between and 14-18 days' leave after each 8-week cycle.

As an Assistant Shift Leader, you'll help deliver the continuous operation and maintenance of the Solid State Phased Array Radar (SSPAR), supporting a critical capability that operates 24/7. Your work will help ensure uninterrupted radar availability while maintaining the safe and efficient operation of essential SSPAR equipment and infrastructure.

What you'll do as an Assistant Shift Leader

• Operate and monitor facilities plant, the Building Management System (BMS) and fire alarm systems within the SSPAR facility.
• Carry out Authorised Person (Electrical) duties for high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) systems, supporting planned and reactive maintenance activities.
• Coordinate Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) activities, ensuring compliance with Joint Service Publication (JSP) 375 requirements and site procedures.
• Maintain accurate operational records, investigate issues and produce reports to support continuous improvement and operational performance.
• Supervise engineering subcontractors and support maintenance activities across facilities, mechanical, electrical and radar systems.
• Stand in for the Shift Leader when required, supporting radar operations, diagnostics, equipment rotations and site reporting activities.

Does this sound like you?

• A minimum Level 3 engineering qualification and/or significant experience working with HV and LV electrical and electronic systems.
• Currently an Authorised Person Electrical HV/LV or have previous experience performing AP duties is desirable
• Experience working within Safe Systems of Work environments and a strong commitment to health, safety and compliance.
• Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, building services or distributed control systems.
• Confident communicator who can build trust and work effectively with customers, colleagues, contractors and subcontractors.
