Are you looking for a job where every day is different and you can make a real difference to pupils' lives and education?

Mercia Academy is an 11 to 18 secondary school in the village of Newhall, Swadlincote in South Derbyshire. We believe in kindness, hard work and personal responsibility, and we work tirelessly to teach these values to our pupils. We have an incredibly warm and welcoming body of staff who are creating a brilliant school in the heart of our community. We are a school where staff can and do make a real difference in the lives of young people.

Mercia Academy is looking for Invigilators to join our existing examination team who can work during the trial examination period (usually December and Spring) on a casual basis, plus other times of the year such as May and June for the main examinations .

The key aim of this role is to provide an efficient invigilation service in order to provide the best conditions possible for candidates and to prevent any breach of the rules under which examinations are conducted.

The main duties would include:

To work under the direction of the Exams Officer and, in conjunction with fellow invigilators, ensure an alert and comprehensive supervision of candidates.

Assisting with setting up examination venues by laying out stationery, equipment and examination papers in strict accordance with agreed procedures.

Assisting candidates prior to the start of examinations by directing them to their seats, advising them about possessions permitted in examination venues and ensuring that they do not talk inside examination venues.

Invigilating during examinations by unobtrusive patrolling around the examination room, dealing with queries raised by candidates and dealing with examination irregularities in strict accordance with agreed procedures.

Completing attendance registers neatly during examinations.

To report immediately to the examinations team any instances of malpractice or suspected cheating or any other improper behaviour.

Escorting candidates from venues during the examinations as required. Supervising candidates whilst outside examination venues, for example, whilst in 'quarantine' due to examination timetable clashes.

Collecting and collating scripts at the end of the examination in strict accordance with agreed procedures.

Supervising candidates leaving examination venues, ensuring that candidates do not remove equipment or stationery from the venue without authorisation and ensuring that candidates leave venues in an orderly and quiet manner.

To work in the bag storage room, as necessary (this will involve some lifting).

To undertake any necessary training and professional development relevant to the post.

To ensure the application of the school's policies and procedures with regard to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of young people.

To operate within all relevant school policies including Health and Safety.

To regularly undertake any necessary training and professional development relevant to the post. To follow the school's administrative procedures.

To undertake such other duties, as may be reasonably required by the Line Manager, Examinations Department or the Head of School or members of Leadership Team acting on the Head of School's behalf.

This post is designated as a regulated activity and requires enhanced disclosure and criminal records check for a regulated activity (including a barred list check).

The Trust strives to be a diverse and inclusive place where all staff have a seat at the table: a seat to be free, a seat to inspire, a seat to challenge and a seat to succeed.

We currently have staff networks for staff who are Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer + (LGBTQ+), staff who would describe their background as working class and staff with a disability.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks, therefore, all posts are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and online search.
