Job summary

NFP People Limited in Leicester is seeking a technically minded Internal Sales Engineer to join its Medium Voltage team. You will be the front-line contact for customers, handling enquiries, developing costed solutions and preparing quotations to secure profitable orders.

You should have an electrical engineering background (HNC or equivalent) and strong communication/problem-solving skills, with experience in a technical, customer-facing environment. UK/intl travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Good understanding of electrical engineering principles and applications.
• Experience in a technical, customer-facing role is essential.
• Ability to interpret technical data and explain solutions clearly.
• Relevant degree or equivalent experience with OEMs or international customers is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Managing customer enquiries by telephone, email and face-to-face.
• Interpreting technical requirements and developing costed solutions.
• Preparing detailed quotations and tenders and following these through to order.
• Providing pre-sales technical expertise and product information.
• Processing orders and liaising with Engineering, Contracts and Production teams.
• Keeping customers informed throughout the order process and resolving issues.
• Maintaining accurate records of enquiries, quotations, orders and customer activity.
• Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.
• Building strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
• Occasionally undertaking UK and international customer/site visits.

About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded Internal Sales Engineer to join an established engineering and manufacturing business, working within its Medium Voltage team.

As a key member of the sales team, you will be a front-line contact for customers, managing technical enquiries, understanding requirements and identifying appropriate engineering solutions. You will produce preliminary designs, cost solutions and prepare accurate quotations and tenders, helping to secure profitable orders.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing customer enquiries by telephone, email and face-to-face
• Interpreting technical requirements and developing suitable costed solutions
• Preparing detailed quotations and tenders and following these through to order
• Providing pre-sales technical expertise and product information
• Processing orders and liaising with Engineering, Contracts and Production teams
• Keeping customers informed throughout the order process and resolving issues

About you

You will have a good understanding of electrical engineering, ideally supported by an HNC in Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering or an equivalent apprenticeship.

You will also bring previous experience in a technical, customer-facing environment, alongside excellent communication and problem-solving skills. You should be confident interpreting technical data and explaining solutions clearly to customers and colleagues.

You will be self-motivated, organised and accurate, with strong IT skills. A relevant degree, experience working with large OEMs, contractors or international customers, or knowledge of high‑power/high‑voltage applications would be advantageous.
