Job summary

Barking and Dagenham FE College is seeking a Protective Services Lecturer to deliver theory-based and practical units, including drill, telecommunications, emergency planning, outdoor activities, and map reading. Qualifications

• Hold a teaching qualification and experience of teaching in the Further or Higher Education sectors.
• Have a Level 3 qualification in the subject and be prepared to undertake an FE teaching qualification with our support as part of our Passport to Teaching programme.
• Have significant Service Industries experience and be qualified to Level 3 in the subject with support for FE teaching qualification.
• All applicants should have good administrative skills and be able to accurately track attendance, progress and achievements.

Responsibilities

• Teach theory-based and practical units for Protective Services, including hierarchy, drill, telecommunications, emergency planning, outdoor activities, map reading and crime scene investigation.
• Deliver and assess units against the Learning, Teaching and Assessment framework, supporting learners to high achievement and self-actualisation.
• Engage in quality assurance processes such as writing briefs, marking, internal verification, and collaboration with awarding bodies (e.g., BTEC/NCFE).
• Use learning platforms (Google Classroom or equivalent) to manage assignments and resources for learners.

What skills and experience we're looking for

Key responsibilities of a Protective Services Lecturer:

• Teaching - you will demonstrate excellent practitioner skills and competencies – be able to developlessons to meet the requirements of our Teaching, Learning and Assessment framework, enhance the learner experience and support learners to self-actualise their true potential
• Delivering theory based and practical based specialist units including hierarchy and routine (drill), telecommunications, emergency planning, outdoor activity skills, map reading, crime scene investigation, war and conflict careers and fitness
• Quality Assurance-Experience in internal and external quality assurance processes e.g. including writing assignment briefs, marking learner work against assessment criteria, internal verification, and working with awarding bodies such as BTEC and/or NCFE
• Use of Learning Platforms -Use of digital platforms including Google Classroom or similar virtual learning environments to support schedule hand out/hand in of assignment briefs, uploading and allocating worksheets to the learners to support their learning
• Supporting Higher level grades -Evidence of planning and teaching strategies to help learners achieve higher grades and exceed their initial target grades
• Participate in outdoor learning, the role would appeal to candidates with experience and enthusiasm for outdoor adventurous activities, and residential trips to support the development of essential knowledge, skills and behaviours of young people
• Highly Organised and Professional - Evidence of organisation of workload to ensure deadlines are achieved for marking, feedback to learners, administration e.g. completion of progress reviews, and quality assurance activities
• Maintain own levels of fitness and be able to role model a positive lifestyle in order to deliver units needed for courses
