Job summary

Barking and Dagenham College is seeking a Protective Services Lecturer to deliver engaging theory and practical sessions, developing lessons that align with our Teaching, Learning and Assessment framework and support learners to realise their potential.

The role requires leading practical modules on drills, incident response, map skills, crime scene concepts and outdoor activities, with emphasis on assessment quality and supporting learners to improve their grades.

Qualifications

• Experience in teaching Protective Services or related fields.
• Ability to develop engaging lessons and align with Teaching, Learning and Assessment framework.
• Proven skills in using digital learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom).

Responsibilities

• Deliver theory-based and practical units including drills, telecommunications, emergency planning and outdoor activity skills.
• Support learners to meet assessment criteria and achieve higher grades.
• Contribute to quality assurance tasks such as setting briefs and marking work.
• Organise and administer workload to meet deadlines for feedback and progress reviews.

Key responsibilities of a Protective ServicesLecturer:

• Teaching- you will demonstrate excellent practitioner skills andcompetencies – be able to developlessons to meet the requirements ofour Teaching, Learning and Assessment framework, enhance the learner experience andsupport learners to self-actualise their true potential
• Deliveringtheory based and practical based specialist unitsincluding hierarchy and routine (drill), telecommunications, emergencyplanning, outdoor activity skills, map reading, crime scene investigation,war and conflict careers and fitness
• QualityAssurance-Experience in internal and externalquality assurance processes e.g. including writing assignment briefs,marking learner work against assessment criteria, internal verification,and working with awarding bodies such as BTEC and/or NCFE
• Use ofLearning Platforms -Use of digital platforms includingGoogle Classroom or similar virtual learning environments to support schedulehand out/hand in of assignment briefs, uploading and allocating worksheetsto the learners to support their learning
• SupportingHigher level grades -Evidence of planning and teachingstrategies to help learners achieve higher grades and exceed their initialtarget grades
• Participatein outdoor learning, the role would appeal to candidates with experience and enthusiasm for outdoor adventurous activities, and residential trips to support thedevelopment of essential knowledge, skills and behaviours of young people
• Highly Organised and Professional - Evidenceof organisation of workload to ensure deadlines are achieved for marking,feedback to learners, administration e.g. completion of progress reviews,and quality assurance activities
