Job summary

St Paul’s Catholic College is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to provide personalised SEN support in the classroom, including 1:1 and small group work, and to collaborate closely with teaching staff to ensure pupils’ needs are met effectively.

You will support pupils to access the curriculum, monitor progress, and contribute to IEP targets while upholding safeguarding and data protection policies within the department.

Job description

Learning Support AssistantWe have an exciting opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join our team. You will provide key SEN support within the classroom, working 1:1 and in small groups, and collaborate closely with teaching staff to ensure pupils’ needs are met effectively.We are offering a term-time contract plus an additional 1 week to include all INSET days and professional development.

Job Purpose

As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll provide personalised SEN provision on a 1:1 basis and in groups, supporting the pupil in accessing the curriculum at an appropriate level and adapting the learning to make it accessible for students with specific needs. This role also involves providing pastoral support, and you’ll monitor progress to feed back to the class teacher whilst working closely with relevant staff to ensure each student can achieve their full potential.

Key accountability
  • Supporting the learning of Students with Special Educational Needs.
  • To be aware of pupil’s Individual Educational Plan targets and contribute to the development of these targets.
  • To be involved in the process of setting and evaluating pupil’s IEP targets.
  • To assist in discussing these targets with individual students.
  • To contribute to the annual reviews of students with EHCPs, including those in Year 6.
  • To communicate effectively with pupils, teachers, parents and external support staff.
  • To liaise closely with the Learning Support Manager and the SENCO.
  • To work effectively with pupils in a 1-1 or small group setting, in-class or in withdrawal groups, under the guidance of a subject teacher.
  • To carry out efficient, rapid mediation in class for pupils being supported.
  • To have a good understanding of specific learning difficulties and how they affect pupil learning and behaviour.
  • To be aware of behaviour issues that may affect pupil learning.
  • To respond effectively to challenging behaviour.
  • To be able to make decisions independently on the use of the resource time.
General
  • Be aware of, comply with and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to child protection, confidentiality and data protection.
  • Reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • Be aware and support difference and ensure equal opportunities for all.
  • Ensure the work of the department fully supports the overall ethos, aims and work of the College.
