Job summary

Cygnet Cedars is hiring a Part-Time Kitchen Assistant in Birmingham (B9). The role offers 24 hours per week across 3 shifts (7:00am–3:00pm). Permanent, part-time contract with a starting hourly rate of £13.15–£13.70, increasing to £13.45 after 3 months. DBS enhancement may be required; site serves men with complex needs.

Responsibilities include cooking, kitchen cleanliness, stock rotation and COSHH-compliant use of chemicals. Excellent team player with good communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in catering, preferably in care settings.
• Holder of a food hygiene certificate with good personal hygiene.
• Enthusiastic, keen to learn and an active team member.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation of balanced, appetising meals.
• Perform cooking tasks and other kitchen duties.
• Ensure kitchen, service areas and dining room cleanliness.
• Wash utensils and dishes, store properly.
• Rotate stock and put away deliveries.
• Maintain personal hygiene to Cygnet standards and food hygiene regs.
• Handle, maintain and store kitchen equipment per procedures.
• Use chemicals in line with COSHH regulations.

Cygnet Cedars is a 23-bed high dependency complex care service for men with learning disabilities, associated complex needs and who may have behaviours that challenge.

We accept emergency referrals and the team are experienced in managing them quickly and efficiently to ensure the transition for each individual is as smooth as possible.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of balanced, appetising meals

• An excellent communicator able to liaise with people at all levels
