Job summary

Miller's Vanguard invites applications for an experienced Reactive Engineer to service and maintain commercial coffee machines across customer sites. You will diagnose faults, perform repairs, and conduct safety checks under PSSR guidelines, while maintaining documents and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.

The role offers a 42.5-hour week, on-call allowances, and travel across multiple UK locations. A company van is provided for commuting and regional travel will be required.

Responsibilities

• Attend customer sites to diagnose and repair issues on commercial coffee machines and related equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and follow manufacturer guidance and SLAs.
• Carry out boiler servicing, calibration, flow checks, and safety testing.
• Document service reports, risk assessments, and WSE/inspection results accurately.
• Identify safety concerns and potential faults early and document remedial actions.
• Maintain company van, tools, and parts in good condition and ensure compliance with PSSR.

Locations we're recruiting: Birmingham, Doncaster, Lichfield, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham and Runcorn.

Salary: Up to £46,000 per annum (plus additional payment for on call totalling £900.00 per annum)

Hours: 42.5 hours a week, Monday - Friday plus additional weekend working 1 in 4 working weekend rota - paid 'Door to Door'.

Job Description

We have an opportunity for an experienced Reactive Engineer - Coffee Division to further strengthen our Engineering team and provide a dynamic reactive support service to all our loyal large customers.

The Coffee Machine Engineer is responsible for the servicing, inspection, and reactive maintenance of commercial coffee machines and associated beverage equipment. This includes ensuring compliance with Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) and completing Written Schemes of Examination (WSE) where required.

The engineer will diagnose faults, conduct technical repairs, carry out routine maintenance, and provide exceptional customer service to ensure equipment remains safe, efficient, and fully operational.

Job Role

• Attend customer sites to diagnose and repair faults on commercial coffee machines, grinders, boilers, and water systems.
• Resolve breakdowns quickly to minimise customer downtime.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, scale-related, water-system, and pressure-related issues.
• Replace worn or defective components safely and effectively.
• Communicate status updates and resolutions to the Operations Centre and customers.
• Carry out scheduled servicing in line with manufacturer guidance and company SLAs.
• Perform boiler servicing, grinder calibration, flow checks, temperature/pressure testing, and system optimisation.
• Identify potential faults, early wear, or safety concerns.
• Recommend and document remedial works or upgrades.
• Ensure PPM work supports machine reliability and safety.
• Carry out inspections and testing of equipment that falls under Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR), including machines containing steam boilers or pressure vessels.
• Complete service reports, asset updates, WSE documentation, risk assessments, and job sheets accurately.
• Conduct statutory safety checks such as pressure relief valve testing, vessel integrity checks, and safety interlock verification.
• Maintain accurate, compliant records of inspections, findings, and corrective actions.
• Ensure all work complies with manufacturer standards, PSSR, electrical regulations, and company policies
• Maintain vehicle stock, tools, and parts to company standards.
• Keep company vehicle clean, safe, and well-presented.
• Follow all health and safety procedures and report concerns promptly.
• Carry out any additional reasonable duties as requested by management
• Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional evenings/weekends.
• Regional or national travel as required.
• Ability to work safely across hospitality, retail, and commercial, and environments.
