Position Overview

The Localization Intern supports the Localization team in delivering high-quality translations efficiently, contributing to the brand's international goals. The Intern will assist with a variety of projects and workstreams, covering all aspects of localizing an ecommerce website, including product descriptions, marketing, CRM, UX/UI, and more. They will help ensure that copy is delivered in line with brand voice, terminology, established processes, and regional strategies, goals and objectives. This is a 12-month internship during which you'll be a member of the Localization Team, with access to training and support throughout. You'll learn how translation and localization work at scale in digital commerce. Whilst this is an intern position, it also offers candidates with agency experience an opportunity to move into a client-side role and build on their translation and localization experience within a digital commerce team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support the team in coordinating translation projects, ensuring we deliver a premium service to our internal 'customers'.
  • Support linguists with queries, information, and technical assistance.
  • Help develop and maintain clear processes (templates, SLAs, etc.) for teams wishing to use translation services, ensuring their needs can be incorporated into our planning and workflows. Relationships, Partnerships & Team Building
  • Work with the team to build strong relationships with external linguist partners and vendor project managers, ensuring clear communication and effective problem-solving.
  • Work with all relevant stakeholders (Digital Site Operations, Content, Visual Merchandising, Performance Marketing, CRM, extended Marketing teams, Copy and Creative Project Managers) to ensure that appropriate source and reference materials are provided to linguists.
  • Develop an understanding of the business environment - how do business needs and plans impact localization, and how can we support them? Process & Procedures
  • Along with the Localization Assistant and Associate, support the day-to-day management and maintenance of the process for translating new product descriptions, ensuring they go live on the site within established deadlines.
  • Support the coordination of end-to-end translation and localization projects with Vendor Project Managers and language teams, helping to meet deadlines and quality standards. Provide pre- and post-translation support as required.
  • Support the linguistic quality assurance process for content pages and UI enhancements, ensuring an optimal customer experience.
  • Prioritise tasks to ensure that business objectives are met, with translation efforts tailored to specific needs.
  • Develop an understanding of Localization strategy, with a focus on improving processes, workflows, efficiency, and quality. Expertise & Excellence
  • Develop and maintain skills and knowledge of Translation & Localization industry developments and practices.
  • Stay informed of international brand standards and specialised industry terminology.
  • Develop knowledge of the digital commerce environment and wider retail landscape.
Experience, Skills & Knowledge
  • Fluent English. Knowledge of another language highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to be responsive and flexible in supporting internal and external teams.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to take initiative, follow up on issues and suggest solutions.
  • A solution-oriented mindset and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and keep multiple simultaneous projects on track.
  • Understanding of how language can shape how we see things, and how brands use it to encourage users to think, feel or behave a certain way.
  • Awareness of cultural differences across different markets and how these can affect consumer needs and behaviours.
  • Previous agency experience and/or familiarity with translation technologies is a plus (including Translation Memory (TM) tools, Translation Management Systems (TMS), Machine Translation (MT), AI-assisted translation tools and workflows and Machine Translation Post-Editing (MTPE)).
