Job summary

NETWORK RAIL is offering an apprenticeship for a Railway Engineering Technician across the UK. You will train with experienced engineers, choosing to specialise in Track, Signalling, Telecommunications, Overhead Lines, Locking Fitter, or Distribution and Plant.

Responsibilities include learning maintenance of tracks, high‑voltage systems, signalling, and telecoms, with shift patterns that may include nights and weekends and short‑term away‑from‑home training.

Qualifications

• GCSE English, Science and Maths are required.
• Grades 9–4 in English and Science, and 9–5 in Maths (or equivalent).
• Willingness to travel, work shifts including nights and weekends, and travel in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Learn from experienced engineers in depots across the UK.
• Specialize in one of six disciplines: Track, Signalling, Telecommunications, Overhead Lines, Locking Fitter, Distribution and Plant.
• Support maintenance and repair of tracks and high‑voltage systems; assist with signalling failures and telecommunications systems.
