Job summary

CAF UK is seeking an Overhaul Engineer to help establish and continuously improve production processes at the new facility. You will support layout, equipment specs, procedures, BOMs, and initial training, then focus on maintenance management and process reliability.

Collaborating with Production and Materials teams, you will lead root-cause analysis, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives to deliver high-quality overhauls of bogies, wheelsets, gearboxes, and related components.

Qualifications

• Level 6 Engineering Degree or higher; strong relevant experience considered with HNC/D as alternative.
• Experience in railway engineering environment with heavy equipment (horizontal lathe, wheelset press, welding, sandblasting).
• Proven planning and organisational skills.
• Experience writing and analysing technical procedures.
• Familiarity with 5W2H and 5 Whys.
• Lean Manufacturing and Six-Sigma experience is highly desirable.
• PC literacy and quick adaptation to new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Establish and continually improve production processes at the CAF UK Overhaul Facility.
• Support facility layout, equipment specification, writing procedures and BOMs, and coordinate initial training.
• Manage and optimise maintenance activities; review documentation; improve system reliability.
• Benchmark best practices with other CAF sites and support technician training.
• Lead maintenance planning, perform root-cause analysis, manage the technical library, and drive continuous improvement.
• Support Production to deliver high-quality overhauls of bogies, wheelsets, gearboxes, powerpacks, couplers, HVACs and other components.
• Balance hands-on process oversight with problem-solving and technical documentation daily.
