Job summary

CAF Rail UK seeks an Overhaul Engineer to establish and continuously enhance production processes at the new UK Overhaul Facility. You will support layout, equipment specs, procedures, BOMs and initial training, then lead maintenance planning and continuous improvement with the technical team.

Responsibilities include auditing, data analysis, root cause investigations, and collaboration with Production and Materials teams to improve reliability and efficiency in overhauls of bogies, wheelsets,

Qualifications

• Level 6 Engineering Degree or higher. HNC/D may also be considered.
• Experience in an engineering role and railway environment with heavy equipment such as horizontal lathe, wheelset press, welding, sandblasting.
• Proven experience in planning and organising tasks.
• Experience analysing and writing technical procedures.
• Proven experience using problem-solving tools like 5W2H and 5 Whys.
• Lean Manufacturing and Six-Sigma are highly desirable.
• PC literate with the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

Responsibilities

• Establish and improve production processes at the CAF UK Overhaul Facility.
• Assist with facility layout, equipment specs, procedures and BOMs, and coordinate initial training.
• Post-launch: manage maintenance, review docs, improve reliability, support production.
• Benchmark best practices with other CAF sites and train technicians.
• Lead maintenance planning, root cause analysis, and manage technical library.
• Support Production to deliver high-quality overhauls of bogies, wheelsets, gearboxes, powerpacks, couplers, HVACs and more.
