Job summary

Speedy is the UK's leading hire provider seeking a Rail Competency & Compliance Manager to join our Rail team in Haydock. This role controls safety, maintenance, movements and operations of the RMMM fleet while developing rail engineering workforce competency and compliance.

You will identify competency requirements, oversee assessments, maintain records, and drive improvements across the business. The position offers ongoing training, flexible hybrid working and career progression within Speedy.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 2 qualification in Plant Engineering.
• Strong technical knowledge of rail engineering, competency management and compliance.
• Experience assessing and developing engineering competence.
• Excellent organisational and record management skills.
• Ability to produce detailed engineering reports and management information.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to coach, mentor and influence others.
• Proactive approach to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Identify and manage competency requirements across the business.
• Oversee engineering assessment processes and provide technical guidance.
• Maintain competency records, assessment plans and documentation.
• Manage training systems and coordinate assessment records.
• Administer competency schemes and arrange external training.
• Provide technical support to rail team and develop procedures.
• Ensure compliance with legislation and industry standards.
• Support OTP availability, servicing and inspections.
• Coach and mentor employees and partners in competency management.
• Drive performance improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
