Job summary

Speedy Hire Plc is seeking a Rail Competency & Compliance Manager to lead competency management across the rail division. The role focuses on ensuring safety, maintenance and operations of the Rail Mobile Maintenance Machine fleet, while developing the rail engineering workforce.

You will oversee assessments, training coordination, and compliance with industry standards, driving continuous improvement and performance across Speedy’s rail activities.

Qualifications

• Level 2 qualification in Plant Engineering.
• Strong knowledge of rail engineering, competency management and compliance.
• Experience assessing and developing engineering competence.
• Excellent organisational and record management skills.
• Ability to produce detailed engineering reports and management information.
• Strong communication skills to coach, mentor and influence others.
• Proactive approach to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Assess, mentor and develop engineers across the region and sector.
• Conduct competency assessments and provide feedback to depot managers.
• Maintain competency records and assessment plans.
• Manage training and competency systems via Speedy Academy and PeopleFluent.
• Administer the Sentinel Scheme and arrange external training.
• Provide technical support and guidance to the rail team.
• Support compliance with industry standards and legislation.
• Oversee OTP operation, maintenance and availability.
• Develop engineering capability through coaching and mentoring.
• Drive PPS submissions and monitor performance with Network Rail.
• Produce monthly and quarterly management information.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities within OTP activities.
• Produce detailed engineering reports for key customers.
