Job summary

Speedy Haydock is seeking a Rail Competency & Compliance Manager to lead competency assessment, training, and governance for the Rail division. You will manage OTP availability, ensure compliance with industry standards, and drive continuous improvement across the engineering workforce.

The role emphasizes coaching, documentation control, and collaboration with depot managers. Hybrid and flexible working options exist, with 37.5 hours weekly at Haydock.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 2 qualification in Plant Engineering.
• Strong knowledge of rail engineering, competency management and compliance.
• Experience assessing and developing engineering competence.
• Excellent organisational and record management skills.
• Ability to produce detailed engineering reports and management information.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to coach, mentor and influence others.

Responsibilities

• Support rail engineering competence and compliance by assessing, mentoring and developing engineers across the region and sector.
• Conduct competency assessments, identify training needs and provide feedback to depot managers.
• Maintain competency records and assessment plans with up-to-date documentation.
• Manage training systems, updating competency matrices and coordinating records in Speedy Academy and PeopleFluent.
• Administer the Sentinel Scheme, onboarding personnel and arranging external training.
• Provide technical support and guidance to the rail team to develop plant, equipment and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with legislation and standards by reviewing processes and implementing improvements.
• Support operation, maintenance and availability of On Track Plant (OTP) with servicing and inspections.
• Develop engineering capability through coaching and mentoring for staff and partners.
• Drive Route to Gold performance through PPS submissions and trend analysis.
• Produce engineering reports and management information for key customers.
