Job summary

NHS Professionals, filling for West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, seeks a Radiographer Assistant Higher on a seven-month bank post to support radiology services at St Albans City Hospital and Watford General Hospital. The role covers patient transfers, reception tasks, image transfers and routine checks, with potential MRI/CT/ultrasound exposure.

The ideal candidate will have GCSE English and Maths and NVQ Level 3 (or working towards one) and will contribute to a busy radiology department

Qualifications

• GCSEs in English and Maths or equivalent.
• NVQ Level 3 in Customer Care or Healthcare, or willingness to work towards it.
• Experience with EPR systems, computer applications and patient administration.

Responsibilities

• Support radiology staff and assist radiologists in specialised areas.
• Provide direct patient care within the department.
• Support patient transfers, reception and clerical duties.
• Carry out image transfers and routine daily checks.
• Work with porters on safe patient movement and handling.
• Communicate with patients, relatives and carers, explaining information clearly.
• Prepare examination rooms, check consumables and keep areas clean, safe and suitable.
• Maintain accurate records on electronic systems, including patient details and imaging requests.
• Arrange appointments and complete administrative tasks as directed.
• Monitor stock, check expiry dates and escalate shortages or discrepancies.
• Carry out equipment checks, report faults and follow departmental policies.
• Support induction of new staff and assist learners in the department.
