Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Radiation Protection Consultant to join our Radiation Protection & Characterisation team. This consultancy role supports a diverse portfolio of clients across industrial, research, healthcare and other sectors using ionising radiation.

You will work closely with experienced Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs), providing practical radiation protection support to clients while developing your own technical competence and experience.

Qualifications

• Practical experience in radiation protection, health physics or related discipline.
• Knowledge of IRR17 and associated guidance.
• Experience with radiation risk assessments, Local Rules or related documentation.
• Strong technical report writing skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Ability to work independently and escalate to certificated RPAs as needed.
• Willingness to travel regularly to client sites across the UK.
• Eligibility to work in the UK and ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Support delivery of radiation protection services to diverse clients.
• Undertake audits, inspections and site visits under RPA oversight.
• Identify non-compliance and improvements, and produce clear recommendations.
• Develop and review risk assessments, Local Rules, procedures and contingencies.
• Provide practical protection advice on engineering controls and monitoring.
• Produce robust reports after audits and assessments.
• Deliver radiation protection training to clients and colleagues.
• Build relationships with clients and act as day-to-day contact for protection matters.
• Collaborate with certificated RPAs and escalate when needed.
• Support monitoring activities and selection of instrumentation.
• Maintain project records and contribute to tenders and proposals.
• Progress toward RPA2000 certification.
