Job summary

We have a fantastic opportunity for a skilled Facilities Operative to join The Jockey Club’s Aintree & Haydock Park Facilities Team. The role covers planned and reactive maintenance across racecourse buildings, hospitality areas, stabling, grandstands, offices and external areas, with emphasis on joinery and plumbing to keep venues safe and high‑standard.

Based at Aintree & Haydock Park, you’ll work 40 hours per week across a schedule that includes events, with on‑call duties.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in facilities, property or general building maintenance with hands‑on joinery and plumbing repairs.
• Good knowledge of general building fabric maintenance and safe working practices.
• Strong problem‑solving and fault‑finding skills.
• Able to work independently or as part of a wider team.
• Able to adapt to changing demands in a busy environment.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Understanding health and safety requirements relevant to maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across the racecourse estate.
• Undertake joinery and carpentry repairs, including doors, locks, gates, fencing, seating, flooring and timber structures.
• Complete plumbing maintenance and repairs, including leaks, taps, toilets, sinks, pipework and drains.
• Carry out general building maintenance such as plastering, tiling, light decorating and fabric repairs.
• Inspect buildings and facilities to identify maintenance issues and escalate when specialist support is required.
• Prepare facilities for race days and events, installing and dismantling temporary fixtures and event infrastructure.
• Work safely and record completed work following health and safety procedures.
• Collaborate with the wider Facilities team, contractors and event organisers; support other trades and be flexible including weekends and on‑call rota.
