Job summary

Origen Carbon is seeking an R&D Manager to lead our small, expert R&D team. You will own the delivery of the R&D roadmap, turn technology direction into concrete workstreams, and drive pilot-scale validation, while growing a team of scientists and collaborating with the VP Technology and Finance.

You will also engage with universities and grant funders, plan budgets, and ensure research aligns with commercial needs. Bristol-based with strong emphasis on impact and ownership.

Qualifications

• You've managed people directly, including scientists.
• You've led applied R&D where results were built, tested or scaled.
• Commercial minded and can connect day-to-day research to business needs.
• Comfort executing someone else's technical direction with ambition to shape more.
• Background in bulk materials, minerals, industrial decarbonisation or similar.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day delivery of the R&D and innovation roadmap.
• Turn our technology direction into concrete workstreams, experiments and milestones.
• Lead applied R&D from early concept through to pilot-scale validation.
• Manage and develop the team directly, including people more scientifically specialised than you.
• Plan R&D budget and resourcing alongside our VP Technology and Finance.
• Support CFD and virtual approaches to new product development at Origen.
• Feed inventions and freedom-to-operate considerations into our IP pipeline.
• Work with our commercial team to connect research priorities to business needs.
• Build relationships with universities, research partners and grant funders.
