Job summary
Universal Quantum is seeking an Experimental Quantum Physicist in the United Kingdom to calibrate, characterise and operate cutting-edge quantum experiments. You will develop control protocols for ion shuttling and quantum gates, and perform detailed calibrations on quantum hardware.
The role requires hands-on work across laser systems, optics, microwave/RF control and high-precision imaging, with collaboration across physics and engineering teams to push new technologies forward.
Qualifications
- PhD in AMO physics or closely related field required; postdoctoral experience desirable.
- 5+ years of experience calibrating, characterising, and operating experiments for quantum technologies.
- Strong publication record or hands-on experience designing complex experimental systems.
Responsibilities
- Operate ion-trap quantum computing hardware.
- Develop quantum control protocols for ion shuttling and gates.
- Perform calibration, optimisation, and characterisation of quantum computing hardware.
- Develop theoretical models and simulations to compare with measurements.
