Job summary

Toshiba Europe Limited is seeking a Software Engineer (or Senior Software Engineer) to join the Quantum Technology Centre in Cambridge, UK. You will design, implement and maintain the software stack for quantum communication products, developing command and control software for hardware in a Linux environment and building the networking stack and orchestration tooling for next-generation quantum networks.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Python in a Linux environment.
• Strong cloud-native practices: containers, CI/CD, API development, observability, DevOps.
• Detailed networking and hardware interfacing knowledge.
• Excellent debugging and problem-solving; ability to work independently.
• Familiarity with Git, unit testing and code quality automation.
• Good communication and time management in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build and maintain command and control software for hardware orchestration and protocols.
• Design, develop and maintain user-facing interfaces (REST APIs, CLI, GUI, SNMP).
• Develop quantum networking software for orchestration and monitoring of complex networks.
• Collaborate with multifunctional team to test and debug systems.
• Create technical design and test documentation.
• Mentor staff and contribute to code reviews and architecture decisions.
