Job description

Toshiba Europe Limited has pioneered the development of quantum communication systems over the past decade, setting new standards for cryptography and data security. We are currently seeking an Electronics Engineer to develop the next generation of secure communication products at Toshiba’s Quantum Technology Centre in Cambridge, UK.

In this role, you will develop electronic circuitry that sits at the heart of our quantum products. You should be able to demonstrate past success in designing and delivering high-speed broadband analogue and digital circuitry for leading edge products.

You will join a dynamic organisation at the forefront of the quantum industry, with the opportunity to play a major role in the development of quantum networking technology as part of a highly driven and passionate team.

Responsibilities:
  • Compiling requirements and technical specifications for new broadband analogue and digital circuits used in high-speed communication systems.
  • Conduct electronic system designs including the creation and reviewing of schematic designs, BOMs and multilayer PCB layouts with minimal supervision.
  • Liaising with PCB fabrication and assembly houses.
  • Independently perform board bring-up, debugging, soldering and integration testing in collaboration with embedded software engineers.
  • Development of appropriate test hardware and procedures for development and production.
  • Create high quality documentation (requirements capture, design specifications, tests plans, reports etc.)
  • Produce electronic system design portfolios, ensuring all documentation is maintained, updated and version controlled.
  • Support continuous improvement on existing products.
Essential:
  • Degree level qualification in Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in electronic CAD tools, with experience in PCB design and layout. Proficiency in Altium Designer is highly preferred.
  • Proven success in high-speed digital, analogue circuit design methodologies, low noise power supply designs and circuit level SPICE simulations.
  • Must have hands‑on experience in the design of microprocessor-, FPGA-, or SoC-based systems, including integration of high-speed memory and high-speed peripheral interfaces.
  • Excellent circuit and system-level troubleshooting and debugging skills, with extensive hands‑on experience using laboratory test equipment, including mixed-signal oscilloscopes, multi-meters, logic analysers etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving and multi-tasking skills.
  • Familiarity with hardware product development lifecycle from concept and design through to volume manufacture and maintenance.
  • Excellent project planning skills, including the ability to schedule and prioritise tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Working with other teams in the business to ensure the electronics designs are aligned to a wider set of technical requirements, such as firmware, software and mechanical needs.
Desirable:
  • Familiarity with post layout simulations and analysis tools used for Signal Integrity (SI), Power Integrity (PI) and Power Distribution Networks (PDN).
  • Basic knowledge of various EMC/EMI control methods.
  • Familiarity working with Optoelectronics systems.
  • Engineering experience in the communications industry with design responsibilities.
