Job description

About The Role

Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project.

The Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects. LTC is a new road that will connect Kent and Essex through a tunnel beneath the River Thames and will be the greenest road ever built in the UK - creating six times more green space than road. The reliable new route will almost double road capacity over the river east of London to reduce congestion and give millions of people more choice on where they live, work and spend their valuable time.

This is a great opportunity for a commercially minded QS who enjoys working with detail, collaborating with project teams and supply chain partners, and taking ownership of cost, value and commercial information across the project lifecycle.

What you'll be doing

  • Measuring, recording and valuing works in line with agreed rules, processes and project requirements.

  • Preparing and interpreting specifications, drawings, Bills of Quantities and schedules of rates.

  • Supporting estimates from first principles, including net and gross estimates.

  • Reviewing project programmes and planning commercial activity to meet key milestones.

  • Collating cost and value information and preparing cost reconciliation statements.

  • Supporting procurement activity, including gathering requirements, recording information and managing the required documentation.

  • Working with subcontractors to measure works, agree valuations and support effective commercial management.

  • Using company systems to maintain accurate commercial records and provide reliable reporting.

  • Supporting colleagues across the commercial team and acting as a positive role model for less experienced team members.

Who we're looking for

  • Confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively with project teams, customers and supply chain partners.

  • A collaborative, achievement-focused approach with strong attention to detail.

  • Working towards, in the final stages of, or already holding professional membership with RICS, ICES or CIOB would be highly desirable.
