Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join our Power Transmission & Distribution Commercial team in the UK. You’ll manage project costs, procurement, measurement of work and cost reporting across the project lifecycle.

This role offers flexible working options, collaboration with senior professionals, and opportunities to progress toward chartership while helping deliver safe, efficient and profitable energy infrastructure projects for communities and networks.

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience across construction, utilities, infrastructure or engineering.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills; excellent stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project costs and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Procure and manage supply chain partners and subcontractors.
  • Measure, record and value work per contract requirements.
  • Prepare cost reconciliations, forecasts and commercial reports.
  • Review project programmes and align commercial activities with delivery plans.
  • Support customer and stakeholder relationships across your area.
  • Manage subcontractor valuations, payments and final accounts.
  • Collate and analyse cost/value information to support decision-making.
  • Support governance and compliance processes and mentor junior colleagues.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development toward chartership where applicable.

About The Role

Due to continued growth and an exciting pipeline of new projects, Balfour Beatty Power T&D is looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our expanding Commercial team.

This is an opportunity to be part of some of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects, helping to deliver the networks that connect communities, support renewable energy and power the future.

You’ll work closely with senior commercial professionals while taking ownership of key commercial activities across the project lifecycle. From procurement and supply chain management to cost control and stakeholder engagement, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our projects are delivered safely, efficiently and profitably.

We welcome both full‑time and part‑time applications, recognising that the right person for the role may be seeking greater flexibility in how they work.

What you’ll be doing
  • Managing project costs and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for commercially focused professionals who enjoy working collaboratively and are keen to develop their careers within a growing infrastructure business.

Essential
  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent experience).
  • Previous commercial experience within construction, utilities, infrastructure or engineering.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently whilst contributing positively to a wider team.
Desirable
  • Progress towards, or membership of, RICS, ICES or CIOB.
  • Experience working within infrastructure, utilities, power or civil engineering sectors.
  • Understanding of NEC contracts.
  • Strong focus on delivering results and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of the wider infrastructure and utilities market.
