Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc, as part of the Connect Plus Services (CPS) team, is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor to support the M25 project from sites in Dartford, Leatherhead or South Mimms. The role focuses on measurement, valuation, and cost control within a busy highways environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Support senior members of the commercial team in delivering varied commercial duties.
  • Procure and administer supply chain agreements and monitor costs.
  • Measure, value and reconcile costs with drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities and Schedules of Rates from first principles.
  • Plan commercial activities to align with section programmes and control delays.

About The Role
Quantity Surveyor – Balfour Beatty – Connect Plus Services (CPS)

Location: Dartford, Leatherhead or South Mimms

We have an exciting opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our Connect Plus Services (CPS) team, supporting the M25 London Orbital Motorway project.

CPS is a joint venture between Balfour Beatty, Atkins and Egis, responsible for operating and maintaining the M25—Europe’s busiest motorway. Delivering over £100m of annual investment, alongside planned and reactive maintenance, this is a complex and high-profile network requiring robust and efficient planning.

What you'll be doing

A Quantity Surveyor has a number of years’ experience in measurement and valuation of civil engineering work and reconciling to costs. They will be supporting other more senior members of the commercial team in delivering the varied commercial duties as well as being responsible for procuring and administrating our supply chain agreements. They actively seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality for our Customers.

Typically a QS will be chartered or in the final stages of achieving professional membership of the RICS, ICES or similar professional body and will be a peer role model for those less experienced members of the commercial team.

Governance
  • Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company’s GMCEs, BMS and other governance
Analytical Thinking & Decision Making
  • Orders information and systematically checks data
Cost Engineering
  • Measure, record & value work unsupervised in accordance with appropriate rules and procedures
Estimating
  • Measure & interpret specifications & drawings
  • Build up estimates from first principle including net and gross estimates
  • Translate measurement from drawings and Specifications and prepare Bills of Quantities and Schedules of rates
Planning
  • Review weekly, monthly, section programmes of works
  • Plan commercial activities to meet requirements of section programmes
  • Have an understanding of delay and disruption programmes
Project Management
  • Use the company’s ERP System
  • Collation of Cost and Value Information
  • Preparation of Cost reconciliation statements
